Bitdeer Doubles Down on Domestic Chip Production as US Mining Race Heats Up

Bitdeer Technologies, a leading Bitcoin mining and hardware provider, saw its shares jump 14% in after-hours trading Tuesday following the announcement of a significant expansion of its mining hardware production capacity in the United States. The move signals a strategic shift to strengthen domestic supply chains amid growing geopolitical tensions and regulatory scrutiny over imported mining equipment.

A Strategic Pivot to US Soil

The company plans to build a new state-of-the-art facility in Ohio, adding to its existing footprint in Texas. The expansion will focus on producing next-generation ASIC miners tailored for the North American energy grid. Key aspects of the plan include:

  • An initial investment of $50 million to retrofit a former industrial site.
  • Partnerships with local chip suppliers to reduce reliance on Asian foundries.
  • Targeted production capacity of 300,000 new mining rigs per year by 2026.

"We are committed to building a resilient, American-made mining ecosystem," said Bitdeer CEO Linghui Kong in a press release. "This expansion not only boosts our own operations but also supports the broader Bitcoin network's security and decentralization."

"The demand for US-manufactured mining hardware is skyrocketing as miners prioritize supply chain stability and compliance with local content requirements," commented a senior analyst at CoinMetrics, who asked not to be named. "Bitdeer is positioning itself as a key player in this reshoring trend."

The announcement comes as the Bitcoin mining industry faces headwinds from potential tariffs on imported electronics and rising electricity costs. By producing hardware domestically, Bitdeer aims to offer miners more predictable pricing and faster delivery times. The stock rally reflects investor confidence in the company's ability to capture a larger share of the US mining market, which now accounts for over 40% of global Bitcoin hashrate.
