Bitcoin Suisse, one of Switzerland’s largest licensed crypto brokers, has announced it will relocate up to half of its current Swiss staff to international offices over the next 18 months. The move signals a broader shift among European digital-asset firms seeking regulatory flexibility and a more favorable cost base outside their home markets.

Why Offshore Operations Are Gaining Favor

The company’s CEO explained that expanding into hubs such as Liechtenstein, Singapore, and the United Arab Emirates allows the firm to tap into specialized talent pools and reduce operational overhead. “Switzerland remains an important location, but we need to be where our clients and the best developers are,” he said in a statement.

This realignment comes as crypto-friendly jurisdictions in the Middle East and Asia-Pacific roll out clear licensing frameworks and tax incentives. Switzerland, despite its progressive stance on digital assets, faces growing competition from these regions.

  • Liechtenstein: Already hosts Bitcoin Suisse’s banking arm and offers a blockchain-friendly legal environment.
  • Singapore: A major hub for crypto trading and wealth management.
  • UAE: Abu Dhabi and Dubai have introduced comprehensive virtual-asset regulations attracting global firms.

Impact on Swiss Crypto Employment

While the company insists no mandatory layoffs are planned, it will offer voluntary relocation packages and expects natural attrition to absorb the shift. Observers note that other Swiss crypto firms may follow suit, potentially diminishing the country’s reputation as Europe’s “Crypto Valley.”

“This is a canary in the coal mine for Switzerland. If a homegrown success like Bitcoin Suisse starts moving jobs abroad, it signals that the regulatory and cost advantages of the country are eroding.” — Analyst at Crypto Valley Research

Bitcoin Suisse will maintain its headquarters in Zug and retain key compliance and management roles in Switzerland. The company’s move is expected to be phased, with the first wave of relocations beginning in early 2025.
