Ether climbed to a three-month high on Tuesday, approaching the $2,000 mark for the first time since April, propelled by a sharp uptick in institutional accumulation and growing activity on Ethereum’s layer-2 scaling networks.

Institutional Moves Fuel Rally

Cryptocurrency mining firm Bitmine has emerged as a significant buyer, accumulating thousands of ETH over the past week through over-the-counter trades. This strategic bet on Ethereum’s future comes as the network’s transition to a proof-of-stake model continues to attract long-term capital from traditional finance players.

“Bitmine’s purchase signals a vote of confidence in Ethereum as a store of value and as a settlement layer for decentralized finance,” said a market analyst at CryptoCompare. “We’re seeing a broader shift where miners and institutional funds are treating ETH as a core holding alongside Bitcoin.”

Layer-2 Adoption Accelerates

Meanwhile, Robinhood’s much-anticipated Ethereum layer-2 network has gone live, offering zero-fee token swaps and near-instant transaction finality. Early data shows the platform has processed over $500 million in trading volume in its first week, relieving congestion on the mainnet and lowering gas costs for retail users.

The surge in L2 activity has been a key driver behind Ether’s price momentum, as traders flock to cheaper alternatives without sacrificing Ethereum’s security guarantees. Key benefits include:

  • Transaction fees under $0.01 for most swaps
  • Seamless interoperability with existing Ethereum wallets
  • Staking opportunities that boost yield on idle ETH
“Layer-2 scaling is no longer a promise—it’s here, and it’s bringing millions of new users into the Ethereum ecosystem,” said a lead developer at the Ethereum Foundation. “This is just the beginning.”

As Ether hovers near $1,980, traders are watching the $2,000 level as a psychological barrier. A decisive break above could trigger further buying from both retail and institutional participants, while any retreat may be seen as a healthy consolidation before the next leg higher.
