Swan CEO Declares Altcoin Era Over, Sees Bitcoin Bottom by Halloween
Bitcoin may hit a floor in October while most altcoins face an existential crisis, according to Swan CEO Cory Klippsten.

In a blunt assessment of the current crypto landscape, Swan Bitcoin CEO Cory Klippsten has argued that the altcoin market is effectively finished, while predicting that Bitcoin could find its cyclical bottom as early as October. Speaking on a recent industry podcast, Klippsten dismissed the notion that any alternative cryptocurrency will ever meaningfully challenge Bitcoin's dominance, calling the vast majority of altcoins “basically dead.”
The Death of Altcoins
Klippsten's comments come amid a prolonged bear market that has seen countless tokens lose 90% or more of their value. He argued that the 2021 bull run was the last real chance for most altcoins to establish a lasting use case, and that narrative—ranging from decentralized finance to gaming—has largely failed to deliver. “The thesis for most altcoins was always speculation on future adoption, not current utility,” Klippsten said. “Now that the hype has evaporated, the market is finally pricing them correctly: near zero.”
“Investors need to accept that the vast majority of these projects are not going to recover. The capital rotation is already underway—back to Bitcoin.”
He contrasted this with Bitcoin's unique position as a hard-capped, decentralized monetary asset, arguing that it remains the only cryptocurrency with a truly long-term investment thesis. His firm, Swan Bitcoin, is a platform dedicated exclusively to Bitcoin accumulation, further underscoring his conviction.
Bitcoin Bottom in October?
On the timing of a market bottom, Klippsten pointed to historical patterns, suggesting that October could mark the final capitulation for Bitcoin before a new cycle begins. He cited factors such as macroeconomic headwinds, the end of the Federal Reserve's tightening cycle, and the exhaustion of leveraged positions. “If history is any guide, the fourth quarter of a bear year often brings the deepest lows—and then the slow, painful grind upward,” he said.
His outlook is not universally shared. Some analysts argue that altcoins will eventually rebound, with projects that survive the downturn emerging stronger. However, the data supports Klippsten's view on Bitcoin dominance: BTC's share of the total crypto market cap has risen from roughly 38% in early 2022 to over 48% at time of writing, according to TradingView.
- Bitcoin dominance has surged as altcoin prices collapsed.
- Liquidity continues to flee smaller projects, many of which are now trading at pennies.
- Regulatory pressure in the U.S. has targeted several altcoin issuers, further eroding confidence.
Whether Klippsten's prediction of an October bottom proves accurate remains to be seen, but his thesis on altcoins reflects a growing consensus among institutional investors: the market is consolidating around Bitcoin, and the rest is noise.
